What are Gifts in Kind?
Gifts in Kind, or GIK, are a type of charitable donation. Relief supplies of desperately needed goods are donated to non-profit organizations by corporations. These donations are perfectly useable goods (food, medicine, vegetable seeds, etc.) which would otherwise end up filling our garbage dumps. GIK benefits and advantages include:
• The donating corporations benefit by receiving a tax deduction for all commodities donated.
• Our environment benefits from reduced waste.
• Most importantly the poor benefit by receiving the goods they desperately need.
